Hall of Fame Dinner

October 3, 2009

As I begin our invocation, I don't ask you to close your eyes, but to keep your eyes constantly open and aware of all of those in need.  Resolve to listen to all, the dissenting voices as well as those who agree with you.  

And I don't ask you to bow your heads, but to look up at what we all can accomplish by working together.

Oh God, Giver of all things, as we gather this evening for this banquet, we give thanks for this opportunity to share a time of refreshment and a time of fellowship with one another.  May our friendships be strengthened and renewed this evening. 

Help us to work and pray and think together as we serve our county in the various ways for which we have been called – as teachers, attorneys, doctors, city council-members, elected county and state officials, county party leaders, volunteers, moms and dads.  Help us all to be wise in our decisions, fill us with high ideals, and inspire us with goodwill to all.

 We are grateful and give thanks for the dedicated work of Joe Collison, for that of Tammy Glick, and Bill Hull and Helen Weigman and we ask that you to bless them and their families as we honor their service tonight.

We give thanks for this food and for all the blessings we receive.  Please bless this food to our use and guide us so that we may help others be the best they can be.
