2009 Hall of Fame

Platte County Democrats honored four people for their life-long contributions to Democratic Politics and service to the residents of Platte County.  The Hall of Fame induction and dinner was October 3, 2009 at the Kansas City Hilton Airport Hotel.  Friends and family members joined in recalling the political participation of Joe Collison, Tammy Glick, Helen Weigman, and William “Bill” Hull (posthumously).

Interesting was the connection between all honorees who worked together, lived as neighbors, or campaigned for one another.  The evening was filled with stories and memories of Platte County Democratic work.

Meg Harding gave the Invocation.

Jim Farley spoke of the narrow margin on Bill Hull’s first election to Congress when Platte County decided the winning outcome.  Bill was reelected to Congress, serving nine terms, as U.S. Representative.  He was born into a hard working tobacco farmer family and never forgot his roots.

Tammy Glick, first woman to hold the office of Platte County Prosecuting Attorney, spoke of her first campaign experience, working for Bill Hull’s reelection.  She continues to be an active supporter and contributor to Democratic candidates.

Helen Weigman served as Assistant to State Representative Maurice Lawson and worked with Joe Collison at the Bank of Weston.  She has served the Democratic Party throughout the 6th district.

Joe Collison, according to Ted Wilson, could never tell a joke.  He was a great mentor who served on many organizations and was a banker for 37 years.  A dedicated supporter of the Democratic Party and an ambassador for all good purposes in Weston and Platte County, Joe is still most proud of being a member of the undefeated Weston football team of 1941.

The Hall of Fame Event Committee sincerely thanks the sponsors as well as the many volunteers who made the celebration a great success.
